Free Books
I have found that many great books are available for free in a variety of formats. I’m not going to try and recreate the huge collections of documents and links but will build up a collection of links to those books I personally think are must reads. While I do like to be on the cutting edge when it makes sense I believe that to truely understand any area of study then you must know it’s history. As a result I enjoy classics and you will find many being added to this list.
- Carl Menger was the founder of what is called the Austrian School of Economics and his Principles are Economics is simply an incredible book.Available in PDF from Mises.org Principles of Economics Plus there is a Study Guide
- Frederic Bastiat will show on this list several times but for a first exposure to his biting wit and intellectual edge I recommend Economic Sophisms.Available online at Econlib Economic Sophisms First published in 1845, you will be amazed at how much is still applicable.
- Robert Schenk has his Cyber Economics, available This is a solid introductory text for both macro and micro.
- Adam Smith timeless The Wealth of Nations No list can be complete without the obligatory link.
- Walter Bagehot wrote much that should be read but in terms of relevance to current events I chose Lombard Street for it’s review of the money market towards the end of the 19th century.
